T Wholesale launches Telekom TimeSync

The landline-based solution for highly precise and secure time synchronization

Modern IT applications are becoming increasingly time-critical and therefore require a precise and reliable time source. In data centers, Industry 4.0 environments, the financial industry and many other sectors, the time synchronization of IT systems is often ensured via services based on the global navigation satellite system (GNSS). However, these GNSS time sources do not offer service level agreements (SLAs) in the event of disruptions and are exposed to various risks such as weather events, signal overlaps and manipulation.

With the launch of Telekom TimeSync, T Wholesale offers a reliable and fail-safe solution for time synchronization based on the Precision Time Protocol (PTP). The solution is provided via the fixed network, which ensures stability, high precision and guaranteed service quality via service level agreements (SLAs).

As Telekom TimeSync can work for a limited time independently of GNSS, it offers significantly higher reliability and protects critical IT applications from time-based failures and security threats. Its inherent resilience stems from the combination of different sources which compensate for the temporary failure of GNSS. It can therefore also be used as a reliable backup solution for existing infrastructures based on GNSS systems. The solution is cost-effective and highly scalable as it easily adapts to larger networks.

Modern accurate time management is indispensable

Telekom TimeSync finds its uses in many scenarios. In data centers, for example, it ensures the reliable operation of servers through synchronization that is accurate to the millisecond, minimizing the risk of system crashes and outdated data. In VoD applications, it ensures a smooth streaming experience by maintaining precise audio and video synchronization. This capability is essential for live broadcasts, virtual events, and remote conferencing, where delays or mismatches can disrupt communication.

Telekom TimeSync also guarantees smooth and secure eCommerce transactions through exact time synchronization to minimize risks and attacks. And finally, the solution enables precise positioning and lane keeping in autonomous driving scenarios through time synchronization that is accurate to the millisecond to optimize safety and traffic flow.
