Our Lambda Network: Stronger Than Ever Before

In case you missed the series of announcements about our Lambda network expansions over the last months, this review will bring you up to speed. We’re continually investing into our network infrastructure to support the growing connectivity needs of our customers, and over the past months we’ve made some significant steps in regard to that development.

Last March we established a new, strategically located Point of Presence (PoP) in Balchik, Bulgaria. Right on the edge of the Black Sea, this PoP is a junction to the shortest route connecting Asia and Europe. Then, just a few short months later in July, we reported on a new connection from Sofia, Bulgaria to Varazdin, Croatia. Not only did this new route enable a shorter pathway between Sofia and Vienna and a 5ms improvement in latency, it also enhanced diversity within the region and created an alternative to the heavily utilized conventional Budapest-Vienna routes.

In August we reported on the completion of a third route to connect London across the English Channel to the major European hubs of Paris and Amsterdam. The advantages of three routes, especially to vital locations such as these, is important to ensure uninterrupted availability and efficient traffic flow. In addition, we just completed a new Paris – Amsterdam route which is shorter and offers lower latency than prior options.

Beatrix Kapitany, Head of Network Infrastructure Solutions at Deutsche Telekom Global Carrier said, “Our international Lambda network is one of the most extensive. It has been built atop our examplary DWDM architecture and is based on the outstanding WaveLogic technology from Ciena. This two-fold foundation makes it an unparalleled choice for those seeking fast, secure transport of large volumes of data. We are committed to supporting our clients with our ongoing work to strengthen and extend our Lambda network across countries and within the country.”
